To provide a fun family atmosphere to make each of our customer’s visits a “Once in a Lifetime Experience”, always observing practices that will create a more sustainable destination.



 
 


Sustainability Policy

The Ocean World Adventure Park’s Sustainability policy (the policy) is to control resource consumption by improving the company’s use of space, time and energy. 

Ensure that all of the company’s activities are aimed to conserve our environment, preserve the Dominican culture, the well-being of our animals and the development of our collaborators and our local community.

Maintain our position as a leader in the tourism sector while being a model in the observation and implementation of sustainable best practices and initiatives that will cooperate with local efforts to a more sustainable destination.

The policy will allow us to:

  • Help in protecting the environment.

  • Avoid unnecessary expenditure.

  • Reduce food waste.

  • Reduce and make more efficient energy, water and fuel consumption.

  • Improve cost effectiveness, productivity, and working conditions.

  • Improve health and well-being of collaborators.

  • Improve health and well-being of animals under our care.

  • Support the development of our community.

  • Support and promote the Dominican Republic’s cultural heritage.



Long-term Objectives

Ocean World Adventure Park’s long-term objectives are to:  

  • Reduce energy, fuel and water consumption, implementing a more efficient use and supporting our collaborator’s training in sustainability.

  • Reduce energy and fuel consumption, by using ambient and renewable energy sources in combination with site appropriate architecture and employee training in sustainability.

  • Reduce the overall use of water in our daily activities throughout the property. 

  • Reduce the amount of food waste generated in our restaurants and food service areas.

  • Reduce the amount of emissions caused by our required consumption.

  • Improve employee health and wellness and reduce absenteeism, conduct infractions, and improve job satisfaction.

  • Support the development of our community by creating diverse and inclusive job opportunities.

  • Support the development of our community by creating opportunities for our staff to train and develop on additional professional skills and qualifications.

  • Support the development of our community by supporting local provision producers and craft artists thru the showcase and offer of their products.

  • Support the efforts of the destination becoming more sustainable.

  • Properly communicate our guests about our sustainability policy and initiatives. 

 


Short-term Objectives 

Ocean World Adventure Park’s short-term objectives are to: 

 

  • Educate our staff into sustainability principles and best practices.

  • Improve our procurement procedure to select more sustainable suppliers and products.

  • Submit projects for renewable energy sources. 

  • Reduce and take responsibility of proper disposal of our waste.

  • Apply for local and international sustainability certifications.

  • Develop new attractions showcasing the local ecosystem.

  • New investments projects and constructions will be developed using energy efficient technologies and conservations strategies.

 

 


Tasks

The following tasks and required to achieve short- and long-term goals:

 

Fact Finding

  • Compile available information on expenditure, consumption and disposal of resources.

  • Develop a mechanism to store and update this data.

  • Determine organizational responsibilities for resources at various stages:

  1. Cost (assessment and comparison)

  2. Procurement and Hiring

  3. Storage

  4. Use

  5. Maintenance and Monitoring (End of Life Assessment)

  6. Repurpose, removal or disposal

Training and Education

  • Implement a program to educate collaborators at multiple levels within the company to become sustainability leaders for the company and the community.

  • Reward collaborators that show exemplary dedication and support to the company sustainability policy.

  • Promote and provide incentives for innovations in sustainable activities and for collaborators to engage in further training or education related to sustainability. 

Promote Sustainability

  • Discuss the importance of implementing sustainability best practices and initiatives with stakeholders, collaborators, suppliers and local institutions and organizations.

  • Affiliate and become board member or local organizations working towards community development and sustainable initiatives for the destination.
